Arreglos hidrogeomorfológicos del cauce de un río neotropical de montaña

Resumen

Entre los factores que regulan la organización de las comunidades de macroinvertebrados bentónicos en las corrientes fluviales se destacan los hidráulicos y morfológicos. Los hidráulicos dependen de la dinámica de los volúmenes de agua transportados, y los morfológicos de los cambios en la estructura del cauce por donde se desplaza la corriente de agua. En consecuencia, los ambientes lóticos se encuentran en permanente movimiento, determinando que la existencia de sus comunidades acuáticas dependa de su capacidad de adaptación a esta dinámica permanente de cambios espaciales y temporales. Para verificar este supuesto, caracterizamos, en un río neotropical, los cambios espaciales y temporales de los atributos hidráulicos e hidromorfológicos de dos tipos de arreglos hidrogeomorfológicos del cauce: los tramos, que son segmentos o trechos del cauce, y los hábitats, que son áreas dentro de los trechos del cauce que mantienen en el tiempo y el espacio una estructura y funcionamiento homogéneo. En siete campañas de muestreo, distribuidas entre sequía y lluvia en 2012, se midieron algunas variables morfométricas, fisicoquímicas y ambientales en el río Guáquira, Estado Yaracuy. El análisis de esta información permitió diferenciar cuatro tipos de tramos comparando las variables hidráulicas, la conductividad, y el arreglo y heterogeneidad del sustrato, y reconocer, dentro de los tramos, cuatro tipos de hábitats, con base en la velocidad de la corriente y la acumulación de materia orgánica
