Foraging strategies of several flycatchers species in an urban habitat

In order to describe the different foraging strategies in common tyranids from urban habitats in Caracas (Venezuela), behavioral observations were conducted in Tropical Kingbird, Social Flycatcher, Rusty-margined Flycatcher, Great Kiskadee and Cattle Tyrant, twice a week between 7:00 and 9:00 am, in April and May 2016. 217 foraging events were recorded. M. rixosa was found predominantly on the floor in more than 70% of the records, while the rest preferred higher perches. As to foraging strategies, the Social Flycatcher and Rusty-margined Flycatcher, that are generalist species, used mostly the Aerial Hawker strategy. The Great Kiskadee used a greater number of strategies (10), being Perch and Gleaning the most frequently used, while the Cattle Tyrant only performed two strategies, mostly Ground Foraging.
